Mayor's perambulation of the City bounds: Thursday 7 August 1828

Mayor: John Hickman
Boundary of city shown by blue-green line on this map

The following article was published in Jackson's Oxford Journal on 9 August 1828. The city was much smaller at this time and did not even include St Clement's. The route is barely described and no stones are mentioned; instead the emphasis is on the refreshments. It appears that only city officers and councillors took part in the perambulation, but 80 or 90 of the Mayor's friends enjoyed a cold collation with wine and singing in the Town Hall in the evening.
