George VI pillar box on London Road, Headington

George VI wall box
Wall box in Turl Street [M]

Boxes dating from the reign of George VI are inscribed “G VI R”.

There are numerous boxes in Oxford dating from this reign, so just one specimen pillar box and one wall-box are shown here.

In this reign all boxes still had the standard 6¼-inch (15.9cm) aperture rather than the present 8-inch (20.3cm) one.
