Bartholomew Warner (c.1556–1619)
Bartholomew Warner was born in about 1556, and is described as “of Kent, pleb.” in Alumni Oxonienses.
Warner was matriculated at the University of Oxford from Lincoln College at the age of 19 in 1575 and was described as “Dialecticus” (a logician). He obtained his BA from St John’s College on 14 February 1575/6 and his MA on 19 March 1578/9.
In 1583 Bartholomew Warner married Elizabeth Dobson, the stepdaughter of John Case. Case (1546–1600), was a Fellow of St John’s College who lost his fellowship when he was compromised with Elizabeth Dobson, the widow of a former keeper of Bocardo (the city gaol at the North Gate), and obliged to marry her. They had the following children:

- Alice Warner
Bartholomew Warner obtained his B.Med. on 27 January 1585/6 and his D.Med. on 1 July 1594, and in 1597 was appointed Regius Professor of Medicine in 1597. He was also a “superior reader of Linacre’s lecture”.
Warner remained Regius Professor of Medicine until 1612, when he was succeeded by his son-in-law Thomas Clayton senior .
Bartholomew Warner died in 1618/19 and was buried at St Mary Magdalen Church on 26 January 1618/19. Administration of his will was granted in the Chancellor’s Court at Oxford on 29 January 1619.
Bartholomew Warner’s children
- Henry Warner (born 1593) was admitted to Merchant Taylors’ School in 1608. He matriculated from St John’s College on 26 June 1610 at the age of 18, and proceeded to the degree of Bachelor of Divinity in 1624, but was rejected from his fellowship by the parliamentary visitors of 1648.
- Margaret Warner (born c.1595) married Dr John Speed (1595–1640)
- Alice Warner married Thomas Clayton senior.
